Helena Normanton was the first woman admitted as a student member of Middle Temple (or any of the four Inns of Court) in 1920 and the first woman, along with Dame Rose Heilbron, to be appointed King’s Counsel in 1949.
Dr Judith Bourne, St Mary’s University, Twickenham, is the author of Helena Normanton and the Opening of the Bar to Women and the founder and leader of the First Women Lawyers in Great Britain and the Empire Symposia. The next symposium will be held in June 2018.
